April 12, 2018

I would like to take this opportunity to inform Nelson Irrigation Corporation employees, our customers, and friends in the industry that my friend of 52 years, Bob Rupar retired on April 1, 2018. I first met Bob just before he went to work for the Rainy Sprinkler Sales Division of L.R. Nelson Mfg. Co. Inc. February 15, 1965. With a start date of March 1, 1974, Bob has put in 44 years with Nelson Irrigation Corporation. He was a Vice President of the company, headed our Sales & Marketing effort, and was involved with the overall management of the company since the very early days. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Bob’s wife Sydney for everything she has done to help in the success of the company. Bob has been instrumental in upholding Nelson Irrigation’s mission statement – “save water, save energy and do a better job of irrigating,” and has his name on eight US patents and numerous foreign patents. Bob was the 2003 recipient of the Irrigation Association Industry Achievement Award. He is a good steward of the land and has always promoted the very best practices to irrigate crops around the world. He was involved in the creation of the Walla Walla Watershed Alliance which has promoted the coexistence of farming, irrigation, ecology and the local economy.

When Bob started with the company our product line consisted of three series of Big Gun® sprinklers, five impact sprinklers and a base flow control. From that point, with tremendous input from Bob, the product line grew to include pressure regulators, the Rotator® Family of sprinklers and accessories, control valves, the TWIG® Wireless Control System, the MP Rotator® and Pathfinder drip tape. He was instrumental in the sale of the latter two product lines – which allowed the company to sharpen its focus.

Bob is my best friend and our friendship has somehow survived our intense working relationship. We’ve had a tremendous amount of fun and excitement and we share a true passion for our work. When I finally decide to retire – Bob and I plan to write a book together on our experiences in the industry! Please join me in thanking and congratulating Bob on a very successful career. We assure you that our commitment to be a part of the industry and improve the state-of-the-art of agricultural irrigation will continue.

All the best to Bob & Sydney!

Bart Nelson
